Iggy Pop has surprise-released a new song referencing the ongoing nightmare of the coronavirus pandemic. Dirty Little Virus is Pop\u2019s response to the devastating effects of Covid-19\u2026 and the \u201cno fun\u201d restrictions that have accompanied its global spread.<\/p>\n
One lyric on the song says \u201cGrandfather\u2019s dead\u2026 we got Trump instead\u201d while another states, \u201cCan\u2019t have no fun, can\u2019t touch no-one…\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI was moved to write a direct lyric, not something too emotional or deep, more like journalism,\u201d Iggy says in a video explaining his mindset in creating the song. \u201cWho? What? When? Where? I left out the Why? because that gets too complex. But I put in how I felt about it. It was a stopper for me, it\u2019s been the big thing happening in my life, and everybody\u2019s else\u2019s I reckon, for almost a year now. If there was still a Man Of The Year, it would be the virus.\u201d<\/p>\n
Written by Pop and saxophonist Leron Thomas, who says that the pair are \u201ccalling elephants out in rooms\u201d, the track is available to buy on Bandcamp<\/a> now.<\/p>\n
